- For those of you who thought that ESCOM was good for the
- Amiga, here's the latest news:
-
- THE AMIGA-TECH UK OFFICES ARE TO CLOSE
-
- Not that this is surprising, given that ESCOM has done
- zero advertising in the mainstream UK press. They have
- made some Amiga mention in their glossy PC magazines
- that they give away at ESCOM stores, and have advertised
- (get this!) their PC range in *Amiga magazines*. Plus,
- the staff in their stores are all PC zombies anyway
- who probably wouldn't know what Workbench is.
-
- The news is that of the six staff members at AmigaTech UK,
- four will be laid off, and the surviving two will go to
- ESCOM's main HQ at Stansted. Sounds to me like good ol'
- C=/Gould/Ali corporate philosophy at work - if in doubt,
- lay off staff!!! Sad thing is, that C= was a mainly Amiga
- company that also happened to make PCs, while ESCOM is an
- avowedly PC company that also happens to own the
- Amiga. Damn.

- PRESS RELEASE
- -------------
- Date: 10 January 1996
-
- Amiga Technologies are to relocate their offices from
- Maidenhead to Stansted as from Monday January 29th 1996.
-
- Full address and telephone numbers will be given once new
- telephone lines have been established as we will occupy part
- of the Escom building, close to Stansted Airport, which
- are more spacious and prestigious than those we have
- currently.
-
- Stansted has always been a consideration but Maidenhead
- allowed the company to become up and running more quickly
- last year for the re-emergence of Amiga computers.
-
- As there is a team of approximately forty people in
- Germany supporting areas such as finance, product
- evaluation and technical support, some staff will
- not relocate.
